HTML has been around since 1993 and was created by a man named Sir Tim Berners-Lee in late 1991. HTML has had several versions over the years, the latest being HTML 5.0 being released in 2012. HTML stands for hypertext markup language and is the standard markup language for creating web pages. HTML actually describes the structure of the webpage and tells the browser how to display the content to the end user. HTML uses tags that specifcy the beginning and the end of an HTML element. Elements can be things like headings, text, images, lists, and so on. To give a broad example, most HTML follows this same pattern:
